Law Office Milošević at 9th IVR Colloquium
International Association for the representation of the mutual interests of the inland shipping and the insurance and for keeping the register of inland vessels in Europe (“IVR”) has organized a dedicated Colloquium on 05 September 2019, due to the fact that the 2012 Strasbourg Convention on the Limitation of Liability in Inland Navigation (“CLNI”) entered into force on 01 July 2019. The 9th Colloquium took place in Belgrade, to honor the fact that the first ratification of the CLNI 2012 has been deposited by Serbia.
Inland navigation in the past decades succeeded to realize two important new conventions, governing the contract of the carriage of goods (“CMNI”) and CLNI. The latter one was renegotiated and signed in a new version in 2012, known as CLNI 2012.
The Colloquium provided detailed information regarding the new convention where the main difference between the 1988 and 2012 CLNI conventions is the enlarged scope of application. Additionally, the second important adjustment concerns the increase in liability limits where the general limits of liability have been increased by 50%.
Regarding the international conventions on maritime and inland navigation law, several panels were held in Belgrade on 05 September 2019, one of those being the panel on “State of ratifications and national implementations” where Filip Milošević, Partner at our firm, spoke about the implementation of mentioned conventions in Serbia and relevant case law in that regard.
